Have a question that isn't answered already?

Is the raccoon trap a humane trap?
Yes. The raccoon trap only catches the raccoons arm and will not release it. It will not cut the raccoon or permanently damage the animal.  We recommend live traps for catch and release methods.  That is far safer to you and the animal.

How do I get the raccoon out of the trap?
Very carefully. Do not try and grab the raccoon with your bare hands. Put something over the raccoon or secure him where he can not move. Grab the trap and push the spring down to release the raccoons arm. It is strongly advised to wear a pair of thick gloves while releasing the animal.  It is recommended that you use a live trap if you intend to release the animal un-harmed.  These traps were not built specifically for catch and release.

Can other animals get caught in the trap?
No. The trap is made for raccoons, opossums and animals that use their paws like hands. It is in the shape of a tube so the raccoon will have to stick his arm down into the trap to reach the bait. Other animals do not use this technique. They will not stick there arms/legs into the trap.

Can the traps be cleaned?
Yes. The traps can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not boil the traps.

Can the traps be painted?
You can paint the raccoon traps if you desire. Painting them will protect the raw metal from rusting. We recommend painting them white or chrome. Using these colors is a visual attracter. Raccoons are naturally attracted to shiny objects. The trap will also be easier to find when you are looking for it.
